Description

This sector comprises economic units primarily engaged in oil and gas extraction, as well as the exploitation of metallic and non-metallic minerals. For the purposes of this classification, mining includes quarrying, oil and gas well operations, and beneficiation operations such as crushing, screening, grinding, magnetic concentration, flotation, and leaching, aimed at obtaining concentrates and precipitates, as well as other preparations typically carried out in the mine. Also classified within this sector are the operation, for third parties, of mines, quarries, and oil and gas wells; exploration and mine preparation and conditioning activities; and support services exclusively for mining based on a contract or fee. The creation of the different levels of aggregation within this sector is based, in principle, on the production function criterion, as well as the incorporation of factors such as soil composition (which gives rise to different mineral combinations), the economic importance of the minerals, and the productive specialization of the economic units.
