Description
Economic units primarily engaged in providing telecommunications and related services. These units are grouped into three branches of activity. The first two comprise economic units that transmit voice, data, text, sound, and video by accessing wired or wireless infrastructure owned or leased by the operators, and satellite telecommunications services. The classification criterion for distinguishing between the first two branches is the type of infrastructure and technology used to offer the telecommunications services: wired, wireless, or satellite. The third branch consists of economic units that provide resale services for wired or wireless telecommunications (excluding satellite). They may even provide several of the same services offered by the economic units in the first two branches, but not as telecommunications operators because they lack the necessary infrastructure. Therefore, they purchase capacity and access to the networks of telecommunications operators. Specialized telecommunications services, such as satellite tracking, communications telemetry, and radar station operation, are also classified in this subsector.
